Dr Kumaran, registered his doctoral research work in field of structural dynamics at IIT, Madras and he works as full time faculty member. He has been serving as a chief panel structural consultant for Chennai Corporation , Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) and Directorate of Town and Country planning (DTCP). He also serves as life member for Institution of Engineer and also life member of Indian valuers after a brief stint. He has pioneered and guided research activates in field of non-metallic reinforcements for structural engineering applications through various research grants UGC, AICTE, DST and has been practically used in residential building projects. His expertise in field of structural engineering associates with high rise structure Developers and organisations such as L&T ,ONGC, Chennai Port Trust, Indian Railways, High ways research departments are guided for entrepreneurial activities
